About Ciera

I’ll keep it short and sweet, golf is my life! Everything I do has something to do with golf, whether that be working on my own game, working on my fitness or working on ways to grow the game to more and more women and girls.

When I was young my dad taught me how to golf after teaching himself to golf and becoming a professional himself. Ever since I picked up a club I knew this sport would be in my life forever, at least in some capacity and now I get to create that same beginning for others.

I truly believe that your experiencee in golf is heavily influenced by how you start and how you learn it. I was taught to love and respect the game for its core and foundations and that has always stuck with me. To this day I teach that same principle, the amount of respect you show the game directly shows in how much consistent success you have.

I have been golfing now for 20 years and teaching for 5, and have spent the last 3 years in the PGA education program to learn the best ways to grow this great game.

My Coaching Mentality

  • Golf is a sport that requires you to get into some uncomfortable movements with your body and the sooner you can get comfortable being uncomfortable, your golf swing will finally start to come together.

  • Being able to hit the ball a certain distance is most people’s goal and that comes from physical power first, but the mental power of being able to be consistent behind the ball also helps a player increase their distances over time.

  • You’ll hear me say this A LOT. Once you get used to a swing change or a mentality change, doing it over and over and over again is the only way to get it to stick. Consistency is also what leads to lower scores and an overall better time on the course.

  • The club is built to hit the ball and make it go a certain distance, but many golfers make the mistake of trying to control the golf ball with their swing and their body and that leads them to not let the club do what it’s built to do. Always make the club work for you.

FAQs

What if I’ve never golfed before?

Then now is the perfect time to start! You have everything to gain and nothing to lose by trying so you might as well get out there!

I’m not fully able-bodied, can I still learn golf?

It might be a little bit uncomfortable and difficult at first to get used to the motions you would have to go through, but it is super possible!! I once had a student with Parkinson’s Disease and he golfs everyday now after not touching a club in years!

I don’t have clubs, can I still take a lesson?

Yes! I have some loaner clubs available at the course where I teach (most golf courses have these) that are totally free to use during your lesson.

What do I even wear to a golf lesson?

This will depend a lot on where you will be golfing and taking lessons. At a public, relaxed course you can wear more relaxed attire, like athletic clothes. If you’re going to a private club you‘ll want to look into their dress code individually.

I can only come once in a while, it is still worth it?

Definitely! Any amount of practice is better than none at all. The main goal is to be as consistent as possible so even if it’s not so often. Make a plan you can repeat realistically and stick with it!

Can I also practice on my own?

Yes!!! You absolutely should practice on your own after a lesson. When you learn something new repetition is the best way to make sure it sticks. Always practice extra without your coach to work on conceptualizing what she taught you.
